Although more frequently associated with the DIY chain of the same name, Bauhaus refers to an architectural style whose influence extended across the world – as far as Berlin, Chicago and New York. Bauhaus is seen as having paved the way for modern architecture – and Karlsruhe can even claim to be a pioneer in this regard: this is evident from the Dammerstock Estate, which was built in the 1920s by prominent architect Walter Gropius. The estate was recently renovated completely and is now revelling in its newfound splendour. Go and see it – you won’t be disappointed!
