Although more frequently associated with the DIY chain of the same name, Bauhaus refers to an architectural style whose influence extended across the world – as far as Berlin, Chicago and New York. Bauhaus is seen as having paved the way for modern architecture – and Karlsruhe can even claim to be a pioneer in this regard: this is evident from the Dammerstock Estate, which was built in the 1920s by prominent architect Walter Gropius.
